MyBirth is dedicated to providing support to all parents and people, regardless of their sex, gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, identity, or ability. MyBirth provides support services through conception, pregnancy, birth, and early postpartum. We trust birth. That being said, more than we trust birth, we trust the decisional capability of the person giving birth. All care, education, and support must center in affirming the power of people giving birth. Shared decision making, informed consent, and informed refusal happen best when birthing people have access to knowledge and information regarding their options, choices, and alternatives.

Our Guiding Principles:

  • Birth rights are human rights; all people deserve a safe, satisfying birth experience, one with dignity and self determination.

  • How we give birth is tied integrally with how we live. All people deserve quality food, shelter, healthcare, community, and safety; all people deserve to live and raise their children in a home free of violence, racism, discrimination, and environmental or ecological danger.

  • Birthing people have full autonomy over their bodies, and it is our responsibility as doulas and educators to always center their voices and decisions; birth should never be dehumanizing, disenfranchising, or demeaning.

  • Doula support is an integral component of care during birth, just as critical as choice of provider and location of birth. A doula has a responsibility to help all people birth with dignity, confidence, and joy.

  • MyBirth doulas and educators are advocates for our clients and students; it is our responsibility to learn our clients’ desires, to help them achieve a clear understanding of their needs for a safe and satisfying pregnancy, labor, and birth, and then to center those needs in all conversations with providers, medical/hospital/facility staff, and family. Our goal is never to “rescue” or “save,” but rather to journey alongside new parents, offering encouragement, understanding, and empathy.
